The Best Layout For The Unity Editor

This isn’t it. This is the default layout Unity gives you. We can do a lot better.

Here is a super versatile layout that you will find yourself using 95% of the time. You can see both the Scene View and Game View at the same time which is awesome for rapid prototyping. You’re able to see changes made in real time.

All of the vital editor windows are there and easily viewable and you can easily scale the size of whichever depending on the situation.

You can add any other windows that you might need. For example, I have my Package Manager just a tab over from the Scene View. The Package Manager is easier to handle with a large viewport, so that’s why I put it there.

Here is a fast way to set this up.

From the Default layout, switch over to Tall using the drop down in upper right hand corner. This will put most of what we need in place.

Go ahead and save this layout to a new profile by clicking the Save Layout option in the same dropdown menu.

Now, in your project window select the three dot dropdown, and select One Column Layout

All that’s left is to snap the Game View below the Scene View and add the console to the bottom corner and that’s it.
